Rizki Muhammad Ridwan, Senior Market Analyst, International Data Corporation (IDC) Indonesian Telecommunications Sector, said the development of the Android OS is very fast.

Android platform mobile phone market share in the first quarter of this year reached only 2.4% and had risen to 2.7% in the next quarter.

“IDC estimates that the Android operating system users [at home] III/2010 quarter will rise to 4.5%,” he told Business Today.

According to him, until the end of this year flat form Android phones in the domestic market will reach more than 7%. “Increasingly [the use Android OS], especially at the end of the year, because some vendors will release new products that use the operating system,” he explained.

Smartphone with Symbian platform in the domestic market is still highest compared to other OSes such as the Blackberry from Research In Motion (RIM), the iPhone from Apple (IOS), Windows Mobile, Google Android, and other operating systems.

He describes the Symbian OS market share in the country during the second quarter / 2010 of 67%, 23% followed by the Blackberry, Windows Mobile 4% in the third position, Android is ranked fourth at 4%, while the iPhone OS 2.1 only has a market share %.

The use of the Blackberry operating system during the quarter I/2010 in the country is still at 12%, but increased to 23% in the next quarter. Also experienced a similar increase in Android OS, which rose from 2.4% in the quarter I/2010 to 2.7% in the next quarter.
