Largest mobile phone vendor in the world, Nokia is committed to not so much poured phone in the smartphone category in 2010. The reason is, it poured a lot of smartphone does not provide a significant advantage for Nokia.
Was launched by The Australian, Saturday (5/12/2009), head of Siemens units to the smartphone category, Jo Harlow said that the smartphone competition was only applicable for high-end segment. While competition for smart phones in the mid-segment to the low end, was more increased again.
“We are going to do ‘defense’ but we also have a ‘tool’ for the attack, which is as good as the ‘defense’ us,” said Harlow.
This plan is similar to that expressed by Nokia CEO Olli-Pekka Kalasvuo some time ago. Kallasvuo said at the time would lower the price of his smartphone and improve margins, assisted by the Symbian operating system it.
Harlow himself was trusted to lead the smartphone segment of Nokia smartphone since October last, after the market Nokia declined to 35 percent of the world. Whereas before, Nokia had controlled 41 percent of the global handset market.
Although Nokia poured a lot of smart phones but that number was only made Nokia lost market share. Therefore, if in the year 2009 Nokia launched approximately 20 types of smartphones in 2010 then later, is expected to launch the Nokia only half, or approximately 10 species only.
Many analysts agree with this Nokia steps. According to them, the strategy of Nokia to reduce the number of smartphone models available, is considered quite reasonable. In addition to strategies able to focus on things that other consumers can not be a headache to choose.
“So far Nokia has a model of smartphone is too much, with designs and features that seem the same. We believe this will create a headache in selecting consumer products. Therefore, the reduction of the existing smartphones, we consider reasonable,” said MKM Partners analyst Pablo Perez-Fernandez.
